Cuba Libre Jeffersonville is tucked in among the Tenth Street stretch of chain stores, seedy motels and fast food joints, so tucked in that you might never realize it was there if you weren't looking for it. Though Cuba Libre Jeffersonville may not stand out in design, it offers one of the most surprising and outstanding dining experiences in town.
The cafeteria-style diner has bothered little with decor, opting instead to let its customers decorate the walls with the kinds of messages you might find in the bathroom at a bar. Scribbled signatures, professions of love and raves about the restaurant are scribbled several feet up every wall. And although you order at a counter and refill your own drink, your food is prepared after it's ordered and delivered fresh and hot to your table.
If you're looking for an inexpensive yet filling lunch, try one of Cuba Libre's appetizers or sandwiches. The tamales (two servings of masa seasoned and stuffed with pork wrapped in large corn husks) are large enough to constitute a meal of their own. The classic Cuban sandwich is served on crispy, flat Cuban bread and filled with pulled pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard. All sandwiches come with a choice of sides like sweet potato fries, plantains and sautéed vegetables.
Dinner entrees feature a variety of preparations of grilled and roasted chicken, pork, beef and seafood, each served with a choice of two sides. Red and white wine, domestic and imported beer, and sangria by the glass or pitcher are also available, and a childrens menu features kid-friendly meal choices such as peanut butter and jelly, chicken tenders and grilled cheese.
HelloJeffersonville Tip: Don't leave without trying a serving of Cuba Libre's velvety flan. Coconut and vanilla flan are both available, drizzled with cool caramel and strawberry sauces and topped with whipped cream.
