Most local Mexican restaurants claim that they serve authentic Mexican food, but La Rosita in New Albany is one of the few that actually does. What was once a hidden gem on Market Street in a residential area of New Albany has recently become a local phenomenon. In addition to being voted as one of the best Southern Indiana restaurants in the LEO Readers' Choice Awards for several consecutive years, La Rosita in New Albany has expanded. The restaurant now boasts two New Albany locations, and the original restaurant has moved to a much larger space in downtown New Albany.
If you're looking for hamburger meat stuffed into a flour tortilla and served in a lake of red sauce, La Rosita isn't the place to go. Dishes at La Rosita look like no other Mexican food you'll find in Kentuckiana. La Rosita's enchiladas are a layer of folded corn tortillas topped with tender, shredded steak, cilantro, fresh onions and sour cream and drizzled with fresh sauce made from green or red tomatoes. Each entree is delicately prepared, each its own delicious work of art.
You'll want to start your meal with an order of La Rosita's signature tortilla chips and salsa. Chips are served with four choices of salsa. One is hot and can be identified by its fiery orange color; don't mistake it for the mild salsa that is very similar in color. The green salsa is spicy and sweet, almost like a thin guacamole. The fourth is the color of barbeque sauce and has a mild, sour taste. Because the salsa is served in squeeze bottles, each diner gets his own serving--no worries about double dipping.
HelloJeffersonville Tip: La Rosita's main and largest location is located on the corner of Spring and Pearl in downtown New Albany. A smaller store specializing in carry-out orders is located at 113 Grant Line Plaza in New Albany.
